The Catalyst Group was formed in 1998 to combine the expertise of Broll Property Group and Property Asset Managers under a single more inclusive ownership structure. The move coincided with the acquisition of several other key operating companies, creating a group with financial and property-focused capabilities, namely:
- Property asset management,
- Listed property securities portfolio management,
- Property investment products,
- Structured equity and debt capital,
- Valuations and consultancy,
- Property development, and
- Body corporate financing.
Syfin is a subsidiary of the Catalyst Group.
Associated Companies
In July 2006 the Catalyst Group sold a 25% share in Broll to Akhona Properties (Pty) Ltd. Broll is the largest provider of property services in Africa. The Catalyst Financial Services entity, via its subsidiaries bolster the group’s vast financial expertise. Navigator Property Fund represents the group’s investment arm and has built up a blue chip property portfolio totalling more than R1.4 billion of asset value.
Syfin Management Services represents the development arm of the Catalyst Group, one of the leading property companies in South Africa. Syfin and its various subsidiaries, have completed more than R3 billion property development projects since 1980's.
Syfin specialises in initiating, implementing and coordinating developments of various complexities and sizes, including the structuring of appropriate financial packages, for various property segments:
- Residential developments,
- Shopping malls,
- Convenience centres,
- Office developments,
- Motor retail, and
- Student accommodation.
The Catalyst Group designed and developed the innovative student accommodation solution known as Academia on the campus of Stellenbosch University during the mid-nineties.
In addition to this Syfin, with Crowie Projects as partners, has been instrumental in the development of upmarket student accommodation for the University of the Witwatersrand.
Syfin developed the Boschenmeer Golf and Country Estate in the Paarl / Franschhoek Valley.
The 50,000m2 N1 City Mall retail development, completed in 1990, was developed as a landmark 'mini city' concept which has subsequently been replicated throughout South Africa.
